Tuesday 1st June – Monday 7th June 2021  is National Volunteers Week! Volunteering is a great way of making a fantastic contribution to a good cause and to the wider community. Volunteers Week is the time to celebrate volunteers and their contribution.

Why should you volunteer?

As well as helping others, volunteering has been shown to improve volunteers’ wellbeing too; helping other people also helps you feel good! Volunteering can also help you gain valuable new skills and experiences, and boost your confidence.

There are many ways which volunteering can create a positive impact for both you and others such as: ¹

  • having the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of others
  • helping others less fortunate or without a voice
  • feeling valued and part of a team
  • gaining confidence and self-esteem
  • gaining new skills, knowledge and experience
  • developing existing skills and knowledge
  • enhancing your CV
  • meeting new people and making new friends
