THE SWITCH AMBASSADOR PROGRAMME
Everyone who takes part in our programme is known as a switch ambassador. The programme focuses on helping young people switch their attitudes, beliefs, behaviour, choices and actions. Switch ambassadors attend weekly workshops for a duration of 12 weeks. The first six weeks of the group workshops focus on reflective exercises. The last six weeks of the group workshops are designed to focus on embedding different mindsets in the students, giving them the tools to succeed after the programme ends and celebrating their success. The group workshops are bespoke and over the course of 12 weeks group discussions, team activities, games, videos and written activities will be facilitated. We use different mediums throughout the 12 week programme to accommodate as many different learning styles as possible.
A selection of students chosen to take part in the programme can also benefit from 1:1 mentoring sessions. The 1:1 mentoring sessions consist of activities which are relevant to the students' lives, age, experience and interests. All sessions are adapted to suit the needs of the individual as we have found that some students are happy to use our pre-planned sessions, whereas other students prefer to decide what they would like to do in the 1:1 mentoring session based on their current worries or interests. The 1:1 mentoring sessions focus on a person-centred approach, putting the mentees preferences and needs at the centre of the sessions. In the mentoring sessions we spend time finding out how the students feel about their lives and school rather than assuming that we know the answer. We also always start the mentoring process by acknowledging where the students are and not where we want them to be.
